Maxine's aim in writing is to show children how animals and birds also live in family groups, have feelings, show emotions and behave just like people do when they have changes in their lives. Maxine was born just after the end of the second world war and grew up in country isolation, amusing herself through childhood by observing nature and drawing. Her father, a former soldier suffered from the effects of war and was changeable. When her life was traumatic, she found solace with her animal friends.
